East Madison Fire Territory

East Madison Fire Territory was formed on January 1, 2022, combining the Chesterfield Union Township  and Richland Township fire departments in order to provide improved services for our area of Madison County, Indiana.

East Madison Fire Territory has a first-due coverage area of 47 square miles, responding to cover a mix of residential, commercial and agricultural areas. The department covers all of Richland and Union townships and the town of Chesterfield, as well as providing automatic aid to Lafayette Township and Adams Township fire departments, and the cities of Anderson and Alexandria. In addition, EMFT provides mutual aid to the remaining eight departments in Madison County. The department responded to 2165 calls in 2021. The department is home to the Madison County Hazardous Materials Team and provides haz-mat response as part of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security District 6 Hazardous Materials Team, which responds to 13 counties in Central Indiana, covering over 4,400 square miles and serving a population of 640,000.

EMFT is currently hiring for paid-on-call positions at both of our stations, and we expect to be filling full-time firefighter positions by this summer. Our recruiting site provides more information, and you can request information or apply for membership.
